Cap Ferret is located at the southern end of the Lège Cap Ferret peninsula in Gironde, which closes off the Arcachon basin. It was formed around 3,000 years ago.
"Lou Cap herré", which means "Iron Point" in Gascon, is the origin of its name, which is linked to the rusty tones that can be seen on the beach when the water from its subsoil flows towards the ocean. This color is due to the high iron content of the Aquitaine subsoil, due to the Alios layer, a specificity of the Gascony moors. In fact, you can see Alios patches on the surrounding beaches, which some people may mistake for hydrocarbon patches, so don't worry.
Visit Cap Ferret is a coastal strip known for its peaceful nature, pine forests and secluded holiday homes in the 44-hectare forest.
Since the film "Les petits mouchoirs", this magical spot has become a must-see for many stars. It's also renowned for being surrounded by nature lovers looking for tranquillity away from the heat. Cap Ferret is set against the backdrop of the Arcachon basin on one side and wild beaches on the other. From its lighthouse, you can contemplate the Banc d'Arguin and the Dune du Pilat. Pointe du Ferret is located at the junction of the Arcachon basin and the Atlantic Ocean. Several villages are located on this peninsula, including Le Four, Les Jacquets, Petit and Grand Piquey, Piraillan, Le Canon, L'Herbe, La Vigne and Cap Ferret, some of which are better known than others for their tourist attractions.
